When you have an opposition joining your party, you r
ejoice and be glad but the case of Edo state APC is sadly different as members defecting from other parties are not welcomed.
There are instances of different occasion were brutal happenstances took shape of welcome rallies organized to welcome decampees, first was the case of Pastor Ize-Iyamo who defected from the People's Democratic Party- PDP, the rally organized in the city of Benin to welcome him was reportedly disturbed by hoodlums while the state government struggled high to stop the rally from being held.
It is sad that a ruling government cannot welcome people coming into the party for growth. This, I assumed to be fear of the unknown- the mighty fear.
Edo state as it stand today has no opposition party member in the state house but it happens to be the most troubled state among the 36 states in Nigeria. This is most likely related to the biblical verse in Proverbs 29:2 which read thus:
When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
There is no doubt relating the present shameful condition of Edo politics to be a result of bad leadership within the confines of the state.
But a question must be ask over these unwise disruptions which often link to welcome parties being organized for Pastor Ize-Iyamo. There is something about him that is unclear to the people of Edo state. The peculiarity of an individual could cause these menace from hoodlums being sponsored by a group of leaders who are scared that he'd take the chance of discontinuing the return of the incumbent governor of the state - Godwin Obaseki.
The state of Edo politics as at today witness another distruction of properties worth millions of naira at the venue of a welcome rally organized to welcome Pastor Ize-Iyamo in Edo North, Auchi precisely. Should Eze-Iyamo not be welcomed? Should a group of people pursue decampees back to their party with violence because of selfish interest to be reelected? Absolutely No!
There should be respect for decampees, if you are scared a returnee taking your chance at Osadebe avenue, you need to buckle up and fight with a contest and not violence.
